The Hidden Heart of Málaga, a tourism Adventure created by Play & Glory
The Hidden Heart of Málaga turns the historic centre into a self-guided experience.

Commercial success story: how Play & Glory monetises a tourism Adventure on Atrápalo

A route through Málaga, three Missions, eighteen Challenges and a simple model: each sale creates one individual access. This is how Play & Glory turned an Adventure built with AdventuriQ into a tourism product now sold on Atrápalo.

Málaga hides stories behind old walls, narrow streets and lively taverns. The Hidden Heart of Málaga turns those stories into a self-guided experience where visitors follow clues, spot details, complete Challenges and progress through a narrative built around the real city.

The case has a second dimension that matters to tourism operators, guides, DMCs and experience companies: Play & Glory did not simply build a gamified route. It turned the route into a product that can be sold to individual customers.

Atrápalo acts as the sales channel. After purchase, Play & Glory emails the customer a named single-use access Token. Each Token provides access for one person.

During its first few days on sale, four people purchased access. It is an early commercial validation rather than a long-term performance claim, but it already proves that the Adventure has moved from design to a real tourism offer.

From a tourism route to a playable Adventure

Play & Glory started with a clear idea: not merely to explain Málaga, but to let visitors discover it through play.

The experience follows AdventuriQ’s structure: Adventure → Mission → Challenge.

  1. Wake Up the City: the city awakens and begins to reveal its first clues.
  2. Behind the Postcards: the Player looks beyond the most obvious tourism images.
  3. Stone & Silence: history, architecture and hidden details take centre stage.

Eighteen Challenges that make Players look closer

The experience contains 18 main Challenges. Variety prevents the route from becoming a repetitive quiz:

  • 6 Question and Answer Challenges based on clues and observation.
  • 3 chained-question sequences that divide a discovery into several steps.
  • 5 Upload Photo Challenges that turn the Player into an observer and memory-maker.
  • 2 Free Answer Challenges built around what the Player finds in the city.
  • 1 Check In linked to a physical location.
  • 1 Wheel Challenge that adds surprise at the end.

Six Challenges are linked to real locations and use a 50-metre proximity radius. The phone is not just a screen: the city itself becomes part of the game mechanic.

The Adventure also uses Digital Objects, visible progress, points, a Leaderboard and a gallery. These layers support progression without replacing the central activity: walking, observing and discovering Málaga.

The mechanics and motivational Drivers

Curiosity and discovery

The clues promise something that is not immediately visible: an inscription, a façade, a street, a stone figure or a hidden story. Curiosity pulls the Player towards the next stop.

Progression

The three Missions structure the route. Players advance in stages and feel that they are opening new layers of the city.

Challenge and mastery

Questions, codes, sequences and free answers require observation and interpretation. Reaching the location is not enough; the Player must understand what they find.

Physical exploration

Geolocated Challenges make movement part of play. Málaga’s historic centre is not decoration: it is the board.

Expression and memory

Upload Photo Challenges encourage each person to document their route and create a personal memory of the experience.

Surprise

The final Wheel introduces uncertainty and closes the Adventure with a different mechanic.

How monetisation works with named Tokens

  1. Play & Glory designs and publishes the experience.
  2. The Adventure is listed on an external sales channel such as Atrápalo.
  3. A customer purchases the activity.
  4. Play & Glory emails a named single-use access Token.
  5. The Token gives access to one person.
  6. The Player enters the Adventure and starts the route.

We are not claiming a technical integration between Atrápalo and AdventuriQ. Atrápalo is the storefront and sales channel; the Token is the operational bridge between the purchase and individual access.

This separates two layers:

  • Commercialisation: where the experience is discovered and purchased.
  • Delivery: where the Player enters, plays and progresses.

For the operator, the Adventure is no longer an activity that can only run when a guide accompanies a group. It becomes a self-guided product that can be sold individually and delivered by email.

What another tourism operator can replicate

  • Turn local heritage, stories and places into a playable narrative.
  • Organise the route through Missions and Challenges.
  • Combine geolocation, questions, photography and Digital Objects.
  • Sell through an owned website, a tourism marketplace or both.
  • Assign one named single-use access Token to each buyer.
  • Keep the Adventure available for further sales without rebuilding it each time.

An early commercial validation

The Hidden Heart of Málaga has only been on sale for a few days. We are not presenting conversion rates, profitability or long-term impact, and we do not confuse internal test activity with sales.

What can be verified today is specific: Play & Glory has built a complete tourism Adventure with AdventuriQ; it is publicly listed on Atrápalo; four people purchased access during the first few days; and each buyer receives an individual Token by email.

It is an early commercial step. It also proves that an Adventure can leave the editor, reach a marketplace and become an experience that people choose to pay for.

Frequently asked questions

What is a named single-use access Token?

It is a Token associated with one person’s access. In this case, Play & Glory emails it after purchase and each Token allows one Player to enter.

Is Atrápalo technically integrated with AdventuriQ?

We are not claiming a technical integration. Atrápalo acts as an external sales channel and Play & Glory emails the Token that provides access to the Adventure.

Can an Adventure be sold through other channels?

Yes. An operator can sell through owned channels or third parties and use Tokens to manage individual access.

Which mechanics does The Hidden Heart of Málaga use?

It combines Question and Answer, chained questions, Free Answer, Check In, Upload Photo, a Wheel, geolocation, Digital Objects, points, progress and a Leaderboard.

Is it a guided experience?

No. It is self-guided: the Player explores Málaga by following directions, clues and Challenges on a mobile device.
